Welcome to my blog, Under the Cork Tree! I’m Lisa Patrick, a voracious reader and passionate teacher.
The title of this blog comes from my favorite childhood picturebook, The Story of Ferdinand, written by Munro Leaf in 1936 and illustrated by Robert Lawson. I invite you “to sit just quietly” under Ferdinand’s cork tree with me. We can explore books together as we “sit in its shade all day and smell the flowers.”
This blog is dedicated to sharing my favorite books, new and old. I read everything from picturebooks to poetry; from early reader books to young adult novels. I graduated from The Ohio State University in December 2013 with a Ph.D. in Literature for Children and Young Adults. My research focuses on nurturing reader/text relationships.
Sharing my favorite literacy teaching ideas is the second objective of this blog. I enjoy integrating children’s literature with literacy curricula. I began working as a Primary Trainer at The Ohio State University’s Literacy Collaborative in January 2014. One of my favorite parts of my job is developing lessons for writing about reading.
